The start of something good
Hi there! You found your way to the test site. And now you’ve found your way to the Blog. So these are clear indicators that so far, we’ve designed everything pretty well. (Either that, or you’re unusually clever.) Now that you’re here, I’d like to point out some of the changes we’re testing. Please comment using this blog to let us know if we’re on the right track.
Orange you glad to see me?
I stole that from an old knock-knock joke, do you remember it? Anyway, did you notice the orange bar running across the top of the test site? I’m pretty sure you did, because that’s where you found the link to this blog. There is also a link to a private Feedback form, and a link that takes you back to the original myembarq.com. And here’s another cool feature. If you click on “How do I do that?” the bar expands, and answers the question for you. Try it!
GPS for a web site
Sometimes, there’s so much information available on a web site, that you feel as if you need a GPS device just to get around. On the classic site, there is a list that runs down the left-hand side of the page. (Web site developers call this the “Nav Bar” or navigation bar. See, you’re learning the language already!) On the test site, we’ve moved this to tabs across the top of the page. Let me know what you think.
A communications hub
Email’s important – there’s no doubt about that! But it’s no longer the only tool we depend on to keep in touch with friends and family. Social networking sites have simply exploded in the last few years, and a lot of us find we depend on them too! We’ve designed the test site in a way that allows you to keep all your networking sites in one place. So, along with email, you’ll be just a click away from Facebook, or Twitter, or MySpace. Is this convenient for you? Will it save you some time?
More to come
We’re testing some ideas regarding the content we feature on the site. Come back in the next couple of days and read my next post. I’ll point out some things to watch for, and ask for your opinions. Until then, post a comment or two. Let’s get this conversation going!

I still feel that the design appears cluttered … do you share this concern?
Where do I find the link so that I can manage my portal settings? Also, are you going to allow me to customize this site like the current version?
Aside from this, I like the changes!
Hi Matt. Thanks for your good questions. There is no link on the Beta that allows your to manage your portal settings. That functionality is available on the original myembarq.com. When we have completed testing all the Beta versions of this site, this feature will be incorporated into the new site!
I tried to “tell you what I think” and was told I had bade an error in text or html before I had typed anything.
I don’t care for having to log on TWICE to check my mail

I may have run into a problem at work with the new format. When I was going thourgh the news items today, my work functions were slowed to a crawl and the “Microsoft has encountered a problem and must close.” Message came up numerous times. I finally had to return to the traditional site.
I am glad I found it too. Very user friendly, I know that it’s new and your all have bugs but you will resolved all those issue. All I want to say is it’s about time. The old embarqmail.com homepage would make me pull my hair out. I love the set up of this one. It stay with the homepage I am use to. I really appreciate all the work you all have done. Keep up the excellent work.
I higly believe that the original embarqmail.com was Cluttered and reduntant. This new design is just perfect. I guess now I can stop pulling my hair. I guess Embarq took the inputs serious enough to come out with the new homepage that’s very customer fiendly. I can’t wait to see it online.

I’m sorry you had problem with the new site. This is the first time we’ve heard about this kind of issue. I checked with out technical customer care, and this was the response.
“There has been nothing running on the actual portal that has shown indication of PC’s crashing. We have all portals running through monitors / various browsers and have not seen this. This could be an issue with this individual’s computer unrelated to the portal.
I would recommend that someone runs a scan on the customer’s computer.”
I hope that this helps you sort out the issue, and thanks so much for visiting our Beta!

Thanks so much for your positive comments! I’m thrilled! We’ve been working so hard to improve the experience for our users, it’s so gratifying to know that it’s working. This Beta will go down in a few weeks, but we’ll have the new and improved site up for good as soon as we can! Have a great weekend!

I’ll try to check the computer I’m using soon, but it is not currently a priority due to work issues.
Why can’t we sort our e-mails by the “FROM” column. It is very labor intensive to manage our messages with the current setup.
I would like to see these comments listed with the most current one first, etc.
there is tooooooo much junk on the opening page and why am I going through your multiple log proceedures???????? this is a JOKE
